"The difference between the old and new incisions will be erased with time and only a single inscription will remain on the bark, a book with a main message: Two friends were here, two brothers". From the 1930s to the end of the 20th century, from Obaba to California, from childhood at school to the hells of war and violence, Atxaga bravely tackles the theme of memory, nostalgia, friendship and also of the sadness of the one who leaves his land knowing that he will not return. And at the center of the multiple ramifications of this story, the only possibility of salvation in the face of the most dramatic circumstances: love.
