El gato tuerto
Avilés, Manuel
What is love? How far are the limits of loyalty? And those of truth and lies? In how many different ways can the same reality be interpreted? In what way can a fact be intentionally twisted in order to turn the victims into the guilty and the guilty into victims? Itziar, the protagonist of this novel, does not know it, there are many legal issues, too many nuances that escape her from her own story, but what she must accept is that her life, apparently happy and calm, has taken a radical turn in because of the accusation made against her husband, Alberto. An accusation that will take him to jail and that will leave two certain victims, his children, and his broken family on the way. This is how what was a love story that began in Havana between music and rum in a place called the same as this novel, will end up becoming an absorbing plot that reflects aloud on our judicial and prison system, the slippery limits of the innocence and guilt and the lack of empathy of procedures that do not take into account, on many occasions, ethics, the strict truth, much less, the feelings of those who are trapped in its gears.
