The ghost of King Leopold, a tale of far greater wealth than any novelist could invent, is the gruesome description of a megalomaniac of monstrous proportions. And it is also the poignant portrait of those who challenged Leopold: the African rebel leaders who fought desperately and a handful of brave missionaries, travelers and idealistic youth who went to Africa in search of work or adventure but unexpectedly ended up witnessing a holocaust. and participants in the first movement of the 20th century in favor of human rights.
