El espíritu del ciervo

Finalista Premio Edhasa Narrativas Históricas, 2022

Mier, Jorge M.

Boká is still a boy, but the laws of the clan must be followed. The season is drawing to a close, and before migrating south for the winter, it is time for the great deer hunt. Thus, Bo, a young shaman apprentice, will be called to take up the spear and join in the tasks of warriors and hunters. But that is only the beginning, because there are many setbacks that his small clan will have to face: the lack of men, the scarcity of food, the change of climate in the regions they inhabit; and also the envy, the betrayals, the fights with the neighboring tribes. When he wants to realize it, the world will not be the same, neither for Bo nor for his companions. Even so, the spirits continue to inhabit the forest and the souls must be able to connect with them. And Bo knows something that almost none of them can do: paint.
