The Enigma Wojtyla offers a first of the documents and photographs from the secret communist archives of Poland that show that John Paul II was subjected to close surveillance and wiretapping from 1946 and during his pontificate. It is also documented, for the first time, the participation of the Soviet KGB in the attack against the pope on May 13, 1981, at the hands of the Turkish Ali Agca. The unknown plan to poison the Roman pontiff, which the British secret services reported to the Vatican dome, even comes to light.
