El enigma Pertierra
Marías, Fernando (1958-2022)
Olivares, Javier (1964- )
(il.)
The writer Fernando Marías contacted Javier Olivares to put in images the life of Joaquín Pertierra, a mysterious Spanish illustrator born in 1919 and died in 1981 who, during the years of the civil war, found himself involved in a misty episode that would haunt him throughout his existence. The collaboration between the two, Marías and Olivares, with which they created a comic, was part of El silencio se mueve, a book published in 2010 by SM. Thirteen years later, El enigma Pertierra is published, where both creators recover that material and discover new fundamental aspects of the life and work of Joaquín Pertierra. The texts by Fernando Marías, Javier Olivares, the art curator and cultural manager Inmaculada Corcho, and the graphic designer Emilio Gil cover a profusion of graphic material, such as the 32-page comic that included El silencio se mueve, book covers, records and magazines, as well as posters from the 50s and 70s of the last century, sketches -essential material from the blog El enigma Pertierra in which Javier Olivares has been pouring multiple graphic documentation and a varied anecdotary- and even a new comic of four pages, "Pertierra in Paris". Game and investigation come together in this work in which Javier Olivares has put a singular care and dedication, and which also becomes a tribute to the figure of the great writer who was the restless and empathetic, sharp and effusive Fernando Marías.
