El despertar

Chopin, Kate

When Edna Pontellier, the wife of a New Orleans businessman, travels with him and their two children to spend their summer vacations at Grand Isle, on the coast, she meets a charming young man, Robert Lebrun, at the place where stay. Her fleeting sentimental relationship, however, will mobilize within her a hitherto stifled longing for freedom that she will begin to shape: freedom to experience her life by moving away from the numerous conventions of all kinds that society marks her as a woman, freedom to find your independence, freedom to explore your feelings and sensations. Edna will undertake this arduous and lonely road, but will society allow her to fulfill her aspirations?
