El desertor

One morning in 1899, Martin Pearce, an English writer, traveler, and orientalist, exhausted after escaping from a gang of robbers, arrives at a small coastal town in East Africa. There, in that ruined town on the edge of civilized life, he falls in love with Rehana, and begins a passionate love story that will unite two cultures and reverberate through three generations and across continents, from colonial Africa to London in the sixties.
