Alemania, 1920-1939

Casquete, Jesús

"An exemplary death is even more valuable than an exemplary life", said a SA conduct manual. Over the course of three decades, the National Socialists took control of the streets in Germany and ended the victory at the ballot box. At first their ideology was not original (it was based on the German nationalist and anti-Semitic tradition of the 19th century), and yet they conquered a substantial part of its population that manifested it in free elections. The reason: they knew better than the others Political forces stir the feelings and emotions of the Germans who promised a Golden Age in the form of the Third Reich, and they did so by cultivating myths, whether national or party-based. One such myth revolved around the cult to the sacrifice of life for the fatherland and for the ideology of the Nazi party, to the martyrdom and its martyrs, to the heroic death that elevates the individual to the condition of hero in the service of the cause of the re national definition.
