El corazón del cíclope

Abella, José Antonio

Leo is a boy who wakes up the world in a poor and depressed Spain. His life is a long and difficult learning path that runs from his first job at a pre-industrial ironworks to the final days of the Civil War. The mining strikes, the arrival of the Second Republic, the Revolution of 1934, the start of the war and the incidents of the maquis will be milestones on this journey, which will end in an inaccessible cave in the Asturian-Leonese mountain, inhabited by a small herd of feral goats. His life is that of so many honest men whom history ended up passing over them. Without dogmatism, with veracity and certain mythical resonances, Abella shows us the awakening of the protagonist's conscience in a story full of humanity, developed with impeccable prose and with an ending that underlines the strength of the narrative.
