El caso Pemán
la condenación del recuerdo
García-Pita Pemán, Daniel
History offers us continuous signs of the destruction of statues, the suppression of legends or the imposition of silence with a view to banishing certain names from the public sphere. This primitive and anti-democratic institution of the damnatio memoriae has been converted by the Historical and Democratic Memory into a sign of a supposedly progressive policy, projected towards the systemic prohibition of mere evocation and translated into an indisputable pretext for a sectarian oblivion by law. José María Pemán filled theaters with El divino impatient, dazzled readers with his thirds on ABC, directed the Royal Spanish Academy on two occasions and obtained five Nobel nominations. But he was also an eloquent speaker who did not hesitate to take sides when the war came and never renounced his convictions. The resentment of a certain sector condemned him to cultural ostracism before his death and has led, after his death, to the condemnation of the memory of his person and his work. This book aims to prove the illegitimacy of the process in the light of justice.
