El capitalismo o el planeta
cómo construir una hegemonía anticapitalista para el siglo XXI
Lordon, Frederic
Capitalism is destroying humanity. It is that clear. It even destroys it twice. First, it devastates countless lives through anguish and precariousness, putting the survival of a vast majority of individuals in the hands of two mad masters: the market and employment. Second, it wipes out the lives and futures of billions of people by making the planet uninhabitable: overheated, hyperpolluted, and exposed to all manner of extreme weather events and pandemics. We must accept this reality. And draw its unappealable consequences: 1/ as history shows, the capitalists (especially that 1% of the population that controls the vast majority of the world's wealth) will never admit their homicidal responsibility or renounce their boundless privileges; 2/ after forty years of neoliberalism, the social democratic space that served as a "containment" has been weakened to insignificance: the only alternatives today are aggravation or overthrow; 3/ therefore, the only transition possible and capable of saving humanity is outwards: towards something other than capitalism that guarantees our lives and the planet.
