El canto de las montañas
Que Mai, Nguyen Phan
The song of the mountains tells an immersive story, which runs through several generations of the Tran family, against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. Tran Dieu Lan, born in 1920, was forced to flee her family's lands with five of her six children during the land reform, when the communist government seized power in the north of the country. Years later, in Hanoi, her young granddaughter, Huong, reaches maturity as her parents and uncles advance down the Ho Chi Minh trail to fight a conflict that tore not only her beloved country but also to her family. The Song of the Mountains, the first novel published in Spanish by the renowned Vietnamese poet Nguyen Phan Que Mai, is a lively and passionate tale, steeped in the language and traditions of Vietnam. It illuminates the human cost of this conflict from the point of view of the Vietnamese people themselves, while showing us the true power of goodness and hope.
