El canon de la literatura gay en español

El canon de la literatura gay en español

Prieto, Augusto F.

This essay is an approach to gay literature written in Spanish from a novel point of view. Beautiful boys parade through its pages, some hustlers, mystical characters and dreamers, prisoners, sailors, bitter and crazy posh beings. Angels of light and shadow created by intense, or frivolous, or committed storytellers, some deceptive and several tremendously funny. Together they compose an exciting 20th century in which gay people went from internal repression to global influence. There has never been an attempt, in our language, to establish a canon with those literary works that have been decisive for the consolidation of a collective conscience of the gay community. This study tries to bring the reader closer to this group of works in a pleasant, documented and insightful way, or, if they already know them, to offer the possibility of deepening them under the light of a critical and different perspective. Some of the books that are reviewed here include, in addition to writers and cult novels, legendary texts which are masterpieces known to many, but others will undoubtedly be, for more than one, a discovery and a revelation.
