The boy, the son of Bengalis, an American citizen and a Russian name, will grow up between korma and hamburgers, Beatles music and Bengali classes, trips to Calcutta, where he and his sister are considered foreigners, and Hindu rites celebrated on the ground. American; but, above all, he will grow surprised and perplexed by his own name.
