El asno de oro

El asno de oro

Apuleyo, Lucio

We know little of Apuleius's life. Born in Madauros, in North Africa, around the year 125 AD. C., we do not know his full name and where he died. Yes, we can deduce that he had a comfortable life thanks to his father and an advantageous marriage, which allowed him to travel and have a good rhetorical and philosophical training. But, above all, there is no doubt that he is the greatest Latin storyteller of the second century thanks to his only novel. The Metamorphosis, more popularly known as The Golden Ass, narrates the adventures of an unsuspecting young man who, after being turned into a donkey by a witch, goes from one master to another. Its episodic structure, its satirical intention and its thematic and expressive richness make it one of the most outstanding examples of the novel genre in Antiquity.
