El arte de la alegría
Sapienza, Goliarda
This is the story of a vital and uncomfortable woman who challenged the patriarchal, fascist and oppressive culture of her time. She was born on January 1, 1900 in a poor house and on even poorer land. She was called Modesta and she was Sicilian, but from the beginning her body and her mind claimed for her a life beyond the confines of her village and her ignorant womanhood. When she was still a girl, Modesta was sent to a convent and from there to the palace of some nobles, where her enormous talent and her Machiavellian intelligence allowed her to control the economy of the house and become an aristocrat thanks to a marriage of convenience, and that while seducing men and women of all stripes, who would be faithful companions until the last days of his life.
