El amigo del rey
Blasco, Santiago
The Castilian nobleman Juan Pablo de Carrión, in the opinion of many of those who knew him, was the only friend that King Felipe II had. A friendship born from the adolescence of the monarch himself, which with the passing of the years became full trust on the part of the one who ruled the great empire. With a dissolute life, Juan Pablo had a deserved reputation as a player, a womanizer, a bully, a great fighter, but also a lover of risk and epic deeds, always for the benefit of the Spanish Crown. Owner of an indomitable and adventurous character, he had nothing to do with the way of being and thinking of the king, of whom it was said that he was guilty of excessive prudence. However, Felipe II saw in that man the prototype of the character that he would have liked to be if he had not had so many responsibilities and obligations imposed from the cradle. He admired him as a soldier for his boldness in the face of any danger. He did not approve of his methods, but he forgave his many lapses, weighing in the royal spirit his important services. At first glance, they should not have been called to understand each other. But, sometimes, contradictions prevail over common sense so that, against all odds, he became the best eyes and ears of the sovereign, in the new conquered territories. He went where ordered, and never hesitated to boast of the friendship that bound him to the King of Spain. Questioned by many. Hated by others. Fearful by almost everyone he related to, he only cared about faithfully serving his lord, but in his own special way. This is the eventful and fast-paced story of him ...
