Dracs
llegendes catalanes amb passió de foc
Prats, Joan de Déu
The dragon is a symbol of Catalonia. If you look closely, you will find lots of representations in buildings, forges and sculptures. The dragon represents the forces of nature, but perhaps because of its terrible appearance, it was identified with evil, one of the faces of the devil. The dragon comes from the serpent and it is already known that the serpent was the first creature to tempt the parents of mankind. In this book we have collected the juiciest legends of dragons, lizards, vipers, basilisks, bundles, maracas and giant snakes in the country, different names by which this mythical being is known. From the dragon Lledó, who guarded the apples of immortality, to the dragon who faces Saint George, this powerful primordial force has accompanied us in the history of the country. Dragons are restless and frightened because they fly, they are covered in scales and they have fire breath. It is not surprising, then, that when dinosaur bones were unearthed, they were thought to be dragons. But we must not forget that they embody the forces of Mother Earth and, in this sense, are protectors and custodians. They also protect treasures and tombs of heroes. And they are an emblem of our culture. A motto worn by kings on helmets. And a badge that shines beautifully, at this time, the coat of arms of the Valencian Generalitat.
