Dos mundos en guerra
Jurado, Francisco José
Incredible as it may seem, there is still an inexplicable and uninvestigated fact by historians in our civil war. An event that occurred during the Battle of the Ebro -specifically, on October 30, 1938- that could mean the immediate end of the war that same night and, therefore, change the outcome of the war and the subsequent history of Spain. On October 30, 1938, the national army had the republican army on the ropes and the war was practically won. However, for nine long hours the fighting was paralyzed throughout the Ebro front and an inexplicable truce was imposed between both sides. But what happened that cold autumn night to get to that point? The military parts and the High Command of both armies reflect nothing, they report nothing. Total mutism. A veil hides any information about it. The answer may have to be sought thousands of kilometers away, in New York and the American East Coast, because that day Orson Welles broadcast "The War of the Worlds" on the radio, making half the world believe the imminence of an alien invasion. What would have happened on the Ebro front if Republican listeners in the Pyrenees and national stations in the Cantabrian Sea had caught part of that broadcast? Would the fighting have been interrupted to fight together against the extraterrestrial forces? Two worlds at war is the third novel by the writer Francisco José Jurado, it raises that disturbing possibility; but it goes further, as it shows us the unknown and perverse game of chess between the Nazi and Soviet espionage services during the Spanish conflict. An absorbing novel, with doses of intrigue and mystery and characters that will make us understand in first person the horror that any war always entails".
