Diario de Cinecittà
Fernán-Gómez, Fernando
Bartoli, Lorenzo
(ed.)
The period that Fernando Fernán Gómez spent in Rome to work on the filming of the film The Conscience Accuses, by the Czech director Pabst, marked the cinematographic and personal future of who became one of the most respected and beloved Spanish intellectuals of all time. Encounters with the most celebrated artists and film stars of the time, the contagious euphoria of postwar Rome (in contrast to the suffocating atmosphere of the Franco dictatorship in Spain) and the international and worldly air of the Italian capital left a deep mark on the young Fernán Gómez, who wanted to immortalize that joyous and fruitful vital and artistic stage in a newspaper that was originally published in part by installments in the now defunct International Film Magazine and that in these pages is fully rescued to offer to the reader the most intimate and informal facet of the great filmmaker.
