Since the #MeToo hashtag went viral, the silence surrounding harassment and sexual assault and abuse has been broken. But how has the interaction been between this global campaign and long-standing local activism? How has this movement developed in countries where women's rights are curtailed by repression or inequality? And what have been the repercussions inside and outside the internet, especially in contexts characterized by mistrust of justice? Awakening chronicles an interconnected movement that is changing the way women act together against sexual violence and discrimination.
