Despedida a la francesa
deWitt, Patrick
Frances Price and her son Malcolm -now an adult, but who still lives with her- lead a sophisticated and gifted life in the most glamorous Manhattan, thanks to the fabulous inheritance of her late husband: a husband about whose death certain suspicions plan that her they point out. Those rumors have endowed her with the aura of a black widow, but they have not prevented her from continuing to enjoy endless whims with the blow of her credit card. Until so much excess ends up depleting the bank account and suddenly mother and son find themselves broke and with the need to start over. They set out on a forward flight to Paris, where they were both happy at some point in their past. Frances leaves hardly anything behind, and Malcolm just an eternal girlfriend with whom he has never quite gotten anywhere. He accompanies them on the journey -by sea, on a liner- Little Frank, the family cat, who must be smuggled into France. There is a compelling reason to take it with them: Frances is convinced that the spirit of her late husband lives in the body of this feline. And when, in Paris, the cat runs away, mother and son begin a search that will reunite an eccentric cast of characters: a fortune teller with whom Malcolm has had a carnal relationship on the ocean liner, an American expatriate eager to adventures, a shy private detective...
