The growing inequality in the 21st century is a serious social problem and its causes and consequences provoke debates and controversies involving everyone from social and political agents to economists. In Inequality, Carles Lalueza-Fox offers a totally new vision of this issue by examining the genetic traces left by inequality in humans throughout their history. Lalueza-Fox describes a series of genetic studies, now possible thanks to new DNA sequencing technologies, that reveal repeated episodes of inequality in ancient societies: powerful over poor, men over women, and technologically advanced populations over traditional societies. Through his DNA, the anonymous skeletons of the past can speak to us for the first time, telling us their stories of suffering and inequality.
