Dentro de la literatura
Premio de Ensayo Gala do Libro Galego 2020
Toro, Suso de
This book was born with the task of serving as an introduction to literature for those who want to look at it. Along the way, however, Suso de Toro gets rid of the corset of the essay to offer us the possibility of participating in a dialogue: with the dead -and Joyce, Proust, Woolf or Rosalía de Castro parade through its pages-, with ourselves - training our critical conscience as readers and freeing us from canonical guilt: one may not have read Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain" until the end, and with it, with the writer who thoroughly knows his craft and who reconstructs his own literary career to find within himself the keys to what makes an author who writes: the rites of passage, the link with his own language, the betrayals forced by the market, the relationship with society, with the living and with posterity, and the alchemy that turns the substratum of the real and the imagined into a literary work. After all, as he himself says, "anything can be an unexpected seed for literature if it happens that we are the appropriate land."
