Nowadays, taking advantage of climate change, an American president offers to buy Greenland, and a Russian president congratulates himself because the disappearance of the ice can permanently open up the mythical Northeast Passage for navigation. In 1889, in Inside Out, the calculation expert JT Maston and his Gun Club members, who had already embarked on the daring adventures of From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon, find funding from a Baltimore millionaire to embark on another unique project: to change the Earth's axis to melt part of the North Pole and thus be able to exploit its coal deposits. Nobody knows how they will do it or from where, but after a public auction in which they are awarded the arctic lands never explored above the 84th parallel, they secretly get to work. Soon, however, to the horror of the whole world, the catastrophic consequences for the planet will be known: end of seasons, oceans and seas emptied, countries flooded, others so high that it will almost be impossible to breathe... Will someone be able to stop such a crazy purpose? Jules Verne was a visionary in many things: also in the depletion of mineral fuel and in climate change; and he did not hesitate to attribute the responsibility to the greed of the nations. In this adventurous and sardonic novel the protagonist is not the characters, but the Earth.
