Del gen al género

The relationship between sex, desire and gender is one of the most important and often ideologically and emotionally charged controversies of the 21st century. Frequently, these three realities are given as synonyms or, on the contrary, as opposed to each other. It is necessary to establish definitions and precisions or progress will be impossible. Biology, motivation and experience refer to dimensions of the human being that will be understood within the framework of a debate between equality and identity. An important part of the left and of feminism has been insisting in recent years, for better and for worse, on identity, leaving aside the issue of equality and justice. This book takes a journey that goes from human biological and genetic realities to the experience of gender. Biology and experience, conceptually very different and both important. Next, the book delves into anthropological and social explanations to end up analyzing the LGTBIA + movements as forms of a real experience without claiming to be a superior or inferior quality to any other. Queer is a movement that is experienced, according to its creators, as critical of all current positions, including LGTBIA+. The book argues its position in favor of feminism and the left of equality, against that of identity. It is a personal work, but at the same time it incorporates a large part of the contributions to this topic from the thought and action of relevant people in these fields. When policies and laws on homosexuality, transsexuality or intersexuality are being debated in Spain and throughout the West, this work is offered as a basic vision to continue defining concepts and actions with precision.
