Del asesinato considerado como una de las bellas artes
De Quincey, Thomas
A treatise on murder considered as a fact that allows artistic delight, based on the analysis of some of the most famous crimes in our history, as well as the particular study of the cases of Williams and M'Kean, two multiple murderers of late from the 17th century and early 19th century.Controversial, profound and owner of an overflowing knowledge, the British journalist Thomas de Quincey (1785-1859) develops in "On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts" one of the most discussed and disturbing texts in the history of universal thought and, without a doubt, the most recognized of all his production. Admired by emblematic figures such as Jorge Luis Borges, Charles Baudelaire or Edgar Allan Poe, he postulates a contradiction between ethics and aesthetics by proposing that a crime can be studied as a work of art. According to De Quincey, murder constitutes an art that has been perfected since Cain and, as such, can be the object of aesthetic enjoyment.
