De Roma a Poniente
la huella clásica en Juego de Tronos
López Güeto, Aurora
From Rome to Westeros offers the reader a broad sample of reasonable similarities between the society portrayed in the hit series Game of Thrones, inspired by the George R. R. Martin novels, and life in classical Rome. The premise is, at first glance, surprising: the Law of the Seven Kingdoms is Roman Law, but it is justified when addressing the treatment in the saga of issues such as the status of freedom versus the condition of slavery, inheritance, relations of kinship, the repression of adultery and incest or punishment of parricides. And, very especially, the role reserved for women, with its advances and setbacks. In a subtle way, the norms of the richest and most complex legal system of Antiquity flow through the political and personal plots of Westeros (and Essos), endowed with a technical perfection that never ceases to admire those who approach, in our day, study it. But, above all, this work is a tribute of the author to Game of Thrones, the total series. Its faithful followers will be able to relive the most exciting scenes through the portraits of its main characters and its essential secondary characters, as well as enjoying many of its sharp dialogues. A very personal tribute, a different and risky vision from the academic orbit, but available to any lover of classical culture and the series itself. Not surprisingly, there are as many Games of Thrones as there are spectators.
