De la revolución a Roxy

De la revolución a Roxy

Manzanera, Phil

Known mainly as the guitarist of the influential Roxy Music, Phil Manzanera is not only one of the greatest legends in the history of rock: his work as a composer, arranger and producer, added to his overflowing creativity, has led him - apart from signing an extensive own work - to collaborate with Pink Floyd, John Cale, David Gilmour, Bob Dylan, Pretenders or Robert Wyatt. Furthermore, encouraged by his Latin origins and his musical instinct, he has produced albums by Héroes del Silencio, Fito Páez, Paralamas do Sucesso, Aterciopelados or Bunbury. He talks about all of this in From the Revolution to Roxy, a memoir that covers his childhood in Cuba - literally in the middle of the revolution, while bullets were flying - and Hawaii, ending in a gray London boarding school in the sixties. Later, after forming his first bands, and clinging to his guitar, he joined the innovative adventure of Roxy Music from the beginning. But his restlessness soon led him to develop personal parallel projects, while his pride in his Colombian heritage and his unwavering love for South America led him to a world of rhythms and sounds far removed from "Virginia Plain." In these pages there are intriguing family stories about espionage, pirates, illegitimacy or the Colombian cartel. And, of course, the glorious on-again, off-again years at the helm of Roxy Music, culminating in their fiftieth anniversary tour. A life, in short, unusual and exciting, as intense as it was well lived.
