Misbah is a dreamy young woman who has just married Toufiq in an arranged marriage. After being struck by tragedy, they travel to the United States in search of a fresh start and open Clouds' Rest Inn motel. Salahudin and Noor are more than best friends - they consider themselves family. Growing up as outcasts in a small desert town, they understand each other better than anyone. Until the Brawl takes place, which destroys his bond with the fury of an exploding star. Now, Sal struggles to make the family motel work while Misbah, her mother, loses her health and her father takes refuge in alcohol. Noor, meanwhile, is walking a terrifying tightrope: working at his cranky uncle's liquor store while secretly planning to enroll in college to escape him (and Juniper) for good. When Sal's attempts to save the motel spiral out of control, he and Noor must rethink the value of friendship and figure out how to defeat the ghosts of the past and those in between.
