de Númenor y la Tierra Media
Tolkien, J. R. R.
Collection of stories about the History of Middle-earth from the First Days to the end of the War of the Ring, passing through the Second Age and the rise of Sauron, in which they refer to events that will later be narrated in The Silmarillion and in The Lord of the rings. The book focuses on the territory of Middle-earth, and comprises elements such as Gandalf's lively speech explaining how he came to send the Dwarves to the famous gathering at Bag End; the emergence of Ulmo, the god of the sea, before the eyes of Tuor on the coast of Beleriand; a detailed description of the military organization of the Riders of Rohan; and the journey of the Black Riders during the search for the Ring. Unfinished Tales also contains the only surviving account of Númenor's long past, before his fall, and all that is known of the Five Wizards, the Palantíri, and the legend of Amroth. Christopher Tolkien is the editor of this collection of short stories. He is also the author of the commentaries on each of the "tales" and has redrawed the map he originally made to accompany The Lord of the Rings, adding new features and names. In addition, the only map of Númenor that J. R. R. Tolkien drew throughout his life is reproduced. This illustrated edition contains eighteen full-color illustrations by John Howe, Alan Lee, and Ted Nasmith. This is a new presentation of a pivotal work in Christopher Tolkien's plan for the posthumous publication of the works on Middle-earth, and the starting point of an illustrious undertaking, spanning four decades and more than twenty books, dedicated to celebrating the legacy of his father.
