Cuentos de trinchera y retaguardia
Martínez Reverte, Javier
One year after publishing the last installment of the "civil war trilogy" (Your kingdom come to us, the time of heroes and Flags in the mist) Javier Reverte, found himself still guessing and ordering all the stories that he had accumulated of that dramatic time in our history. And from his refuge in Valsaín, in the winter of 2018 he immersed himself in a new literary project, according to his words, which are reflected in the prologue, "written with the hope and audacity of looking into a new genre for me: the story . I always thought that the measure of a short story did not match my way of narrating and, nevertheless...", and adds, "several of the stories that are included here have their origin in small personal stories that occurred during the conflict, that were told to me by my elders or by my friends. Because of this, a good part takes place in Madrid and on the Madrid fronts of the war. I have culled other stories from broader stories or are the product of my imagination. Mixing everything up This has been a fascinating literary endeavor, since I felt, while narrating, riding in the wake of some of the writers that I most admire", but he adds, "are not stories of good and bad, but of victims of a historical catastrophe that dragged everything a town to one of the cruelest massacres of the 20th century".
