Cuando los montes caminen

Cuando los montes caminen

El Maimouni, Youssef

Yusuf Albartugui, lives near Tetouan, when a cousin encourages him to enlist in Franco's Moorish troops, with the promise that those who fight to rescue Spain from the atheists and communists will be given good wages and land when the war ends. From the beginning, he discovers that the rebel army despises and mistreats the Moors. When he goes into battle he realizes that they are fighting badly armed civilians, worse eaten and dressed, who defend their peoples. Yusuf is touring Spain seeing the terrible events in Badajoz, Toledo and many other cities. Young Yusuf realizes that he will not earn the promised money and that this war is between the rich against the poor. After Franco's victory was proclaimed, the Moors were held back for the reconstruction of the country, and carried out forced labor alongside the republican prisoners. When the mountains walk is a heartbreaking historical novel narrated in the first person, in a lyrical tone to express their feelings, their desires and at the same time to narrate the most atrocious episodes perpetrated during the Spanish Civil War.
