Cruzados

Tejada Navas, Agustín

Toledo, year 1096. Four men and a woman set out on a journey to the First Crusade. Each one carries their own circumstances. Fray Genaro, leader of the expedition, has been entrusted by the bishop to bring relics from the Holy Land. What the Most Illustrious of him does not suspect is that the novice master of San Servando plans to accompany him Moraima, his mistress, a Mudejar girl whose sole objective is to escape poverty. On Hervé, a mysterious and lonely knight, falls the task of protecting the group. His skill with the sword is prodigious; his sins, simply unspeakable. Hameth is the slave destined to serve them all. His luck does not matter to anyone, although his Saracen past arouses some mistrust. For Alonso de Liébana, participation in the pope's crusade is a matter of life and death. His father and brothers have just been accused of the worst crime: selling warhorses to the unfaithful enemy. They will surely be executed, unless young Alonso returns from the Holy Land a hero. Unfortunately plans go awry when crossing France. Friar Genaro loses to dice the fortune that the bishop has entrusted to him to support the group. Rather than return home empty-handed, the Benedictine monk comes up with a quick solution: to enlist in the hosts of Peter the Hermit. The preacher and visionary from Amiens has already gathered fifty thousand souls willing to take back Jerusalem before the princes of Europe. It is the Crusade of the Poor. A desperate and threadbare army made up of thousands of families without land, without money or weapons. And yet, for Alonso de Liébana crossing the whole of Europe and fighting against the Turkish enemy alongside those people is the only way to return to Hispania with his head held high and free his people from the gallows.
