Coplas a la muerte de su padre
Manrique, Jorge
Arjona, Pedro
(il.)
The medieval autumn was lavish in literary productions on the end of human existence. Among them stand out the Verses on the death of his father with which Jorge Manrique said goodbye in 1476 to his father, Rodrigo Manrique, who died at the age of seventy. According to Luis Alberto de Cuenca, responsible for this edition, it is "the most beautiful poetic composition of Hispanic letters", a treatise on the good death that, in Azorín's words, "overwhelms us for a moment and makes us think". Pedro Arjona masterfully illustrates these funeral verses that amount to the consideration of human pain in all its breadth and significance.
