Contra la sostenibilidad
por qué el desarrollo sostenible no salvará el mundo (y qué hacer al respecto)
Escrivà, Andreu
What is sustainability? Take the test: look it up on Google. You will see a lot of stock photos, recreations of the Earth drawn between arrows that symbolize recycling, montages with hands that hold it with extreme care, light bulbs covered in grass... We are immersed in a great confusion that leads us to think that if something is sustainable it means that it "takes care of the planet". But it's not like that.Sustainability has become a broken compass that, instead of moving us towards the future, leads us away from it with false promises of change. The circular economy, carbon neutrality, the electric car or green finance are just some of the foundations on which sustainability is built, converted into another element of business and institutional marketing. To build a new world and recover the future we need, first of all, to dismantle the economic, environmental and social scaffolding on which sustainable development is based. Only in this way will we be able to plan a shared and democratic well-being, in which we decide where to go within the limits of what is possible, without being dazzled by the blinding brilliance of the empty promises of sustainability.
