Contes escollits

Chejov, Anton Pavlovich
Pagès, Vicenç (ed.)

Chekhov is the great Russian storyteller and one of the essentials of universal literature. But perhaps because of the vast extent of his work, which favors partial approaches, he is little known or from different points of view: there are many Chekhovs and each has his own. Vicenç Pagès Jordà prepared this selection of thirty-five short stories, which Xènia Dyakonova has translated splendidly and which constitute the most nourishing and representative anthology of the author that has been published in Catalan. Reading these stories in chronological order allows you to trace all the creative stages of the author, the transformation of his interests, the maturation of the theme and tone. It features a few of his best-known short stories, but doesn't exclude others that explore lines he didn't pursue. And between the first story and the last of those he published, the whole range of themes and textures of Chekhov's narrative art opens up.
