Werner Herzog, brilliant filmmaker and unrepentant adventurer, went to the Amazon jungle at the end of the seventies, took a couple of years to film Fitzcarraldo (the time it took him to get a boat up a mountain) and left this book written which, according to he is the best thing he has ever done. A filming diary that is a feverish, hallucinated text that can be read as a thriller full of the lyricism and delirium of the jungle.
