Cómo rebatir a un racista
historia, ciencia, raza y realidad
Rutherford, Adam
Race is real because we perceive it; racism is real because we practice it. Science is increasingly being used to reinforce racist ideologies and increasingly used in public discourse on policy, migration, education, sports and intelligence. But those who are overtly racist are not the only ones who spread stereotypes and myths about race: they also come from well-meaning people whose experiences and cultural baggage direct them to positions that lack the support of modern study of human genetics. Even some scientists are uncomfortable when it comes to expressing opinions arising from their research regarding race. However, if we understand them correctly, science and history can become powerful allies against racism by showing the clearest picture of how people really are, rather than what they are according to our judgments.
