In 1935, two years after his death, the Lemerre publishing house published in France How I wrote some of my books, in which Roussel gave an account of the fascinating and hazardous procedure. In this short volume, which gave rise to the OULIPO movement, Roussel shows us his work process, something that we rarely get to know. And what he shows is exceptional: he shows us how he applies mathematical formulas to semantic fields to set narrative machines in motion. The mechanism itself does not have to be considered art, but the results certainly are. Examples of them are Impressions of Africa and Locus Solus. A testament as unique as the work and life of its author.
