In today's world, we all carry a toxic assortment of dozens of industrial chemicals in our bloodstream. These not only harm the health of adults and children, but also - and this is even more worrying - harm the development of unborn babies. The amniotic fluid of pregnant women has been found to contain a variety of chemicals, such as pesticides, plasticizers, disinfectants, flame retardants, surfactants, and UV filters, many of which interfere with fetal physiology. This book is a warning message and a call to action. A single gland in our body, the thyroid, produces thyroid hormone, vital for brain development, but many chemicals we are exposed to are disruptors of this gland. As the amount of environmental chemicals to which we (and, in particular, developing fetuses and young children) are exposed inexorably increases, we are witnessing an unprecedented rise in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and IQ loss.
