Chavela, la chamana
una biografía ilustrada
Romero, Salva F.
Mala, Irene
(il.)
The singer Chavela Vargas was born in Mexico already grown up, in 1942, when she put on her pants and her red serape or jorongo, put on her huaraches and began to sing her heartbreak, to say her songs as only she could do, through cabarets and canteens. What happened before had been nothing but a long flight forward, a fight against everything, against the world. A friend of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Pablo Neruda, Joaquín Sabina, Pedro Almodóvar, Chavela represents the spirit of an era that saw the future born based on revolutions, guitars, addictions and heartbreak.
