As the attack against Drizzt Do'Urden and Mithril Hall prepares, the time of conflicts arises, and Lolth, the spider queen herself, walks the streets of Menzoberranzan. The laws of magic become horribly uncertain, and the Drow city is thrown into chaos so appalling that it is unbearable for all. Meanwhile, in Mithril Hall, Bruenor Battlehammer makes preparations to resist the dark elves' siege, and Drizzt discovers that Guenhwyvar is trapped in the astral plane and that Catti-brie is plagued by horrific nightmares.
