Castilla en llamas

With this work, Alberto Calvo takes us to Castile in the 14th and 15th centuries, witness to a fierce struggle between the nobility and the Crown to seize power. From the noble revolts led by Pedro I's half-brothers to the Succession War, the territory was plunged into chaos and instability. The Trastámara, the new dynasty that rose up after the assassination of Pedro I, had to deal with a nobility that demanded more and more influence and benefits. Any attempt by the Crown to contain the power of the nobility ended in tragedy and in continuous armed uprisings against the king and his supporters, causing civil strife and the subsequent decline of the kingdom. In this political tumult, the figure of a young princess named Isabel bursts onto the scene, who, after marrying Fernando de Aragón and defeating the followers of Juana la Beltraneja in the War of Succession, seized the throne of Castile. Thus began the reign of the Catholic Monarchs. With ambitious but effective reforms, they were able to modernize justice, the government and the institutions, to impose their power, expand their area of control over Granada and involve all the Castilian nobles to put an end to the devastating war. "Castilla en llamas" is an exciting and rigorous chronicle of the struggle for power, as well as the process that culminated in the union of the crowns of Castile and Aragon under his reign and the flowering of the greatest Empire known to date.
