This volume ends with two letters written on October 23, 1956, four days before Plath's twenty-fourth birthday. This is what he tells his mother: "Ted is coming to live and work in Cambridge for the remainder of the year, for the next two weeks we have the rigorous task of making our marriage public, starting with my philosophy supervisor, then with Fulbright, then Newnham; we're married and it's ridiculous and impossible for both of us to be whole or healthy without each other".
