Camp Zero
Sterling, Michelle Min
United States, 2049. The high temperatures are unbearable. The fossil fuel industry has succumbed. The most privileged live surrounded by luxury while the rest of the population struggles to survive. At a Cold War-era climate station, a group of highly qualified women are dedicated to studying the climate, although their future is increasingly uncertain. In the former oil town of Dominion Lake, a camp is being built where a new community with a better lifestyle is expected to settle. Rose arrives there hoping to get the money she needs to help her mother in exchange for acting as a spy. Another newcomer is Grant, a university professor determined to escape the dark legacy of his family. They will soon realize that the place hides many more secrets. Fast-paced, absorbing, and eerily premonitory, Camp Zero cleverly examines how the intersections of gender, class, and immigration will influence who and what will survive global warming.
