That there are few territories whose past has been the cause of so much blood is just one of the reasons why we can affirm that explaining the history of the Basque Country is almost a necessity. This historical essay is a brief narration of the Basque Country that mainly revolves around the 19th and 20th centuries, with an introduction that addresses the events of the previous centuries to put the reader in the context of the different political, social and economic currents that run through this community. The guiding thread is, inevitably, political history, but without turning its back on social, economic, cultural and religious aspects. In the face of so much political use of history, this is the attempt to return it to historians.
