Box Hill
Premio Fitzcarraldo de Novela 2019
Mars-Jones, Adam
In 1975, on the Sunday of his eighteenth birthday, Colin takes a walk through Box Hill, a place frequented by bikers and men who get lost in the bushes. There he accidentally bumps into Ray, a motorcyclist napping under a tree and it will change his life. In no time Colin goes from passenger on his motorcycle to roommate, conforming to some alarmingly prohibitive rules, including no sitting on the couch and no leaving Ray's bed unmade, even though he is not allowed to sleep on it. And that's just to start. This transgressive and dark love story between men is an impressive literary exercise around desire and domination. A reminder that in sex and in love not everything that happens is good.
