Bibliotecàries a cavall
Pasamar, Concha
Between 1935 and 1943, a small region of the Appalachians, the great mountain range in the eastern United States, was filled with books. The merit in this case went to a group of women who were hired by the government of President Roosevelt during the Great Depression to work as librarians on horseback. In the snow, in the rain, or enduring the scorching sun, they tirelessly rode their mounts over poorly laid out paths to the most remote villages and cabins. When starting the return, they used to hear a request: "Please, do not forget! Bring me a book!". And it is that in those mountains, where life was so rough and difficult, books became doors and windows, trips to new territories, sustenance for the heart, food to face the harshness of everyday life with hope.
